Richard Johansson graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Florida State University, where he studied under Bruce Holzman. Recently completing his Master of Music at the Manhattan School of Music with David Leisner, Richard has had the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed guitarists like Andrew Zohn, Xavier Jara, Alvaro Pierri, and Antigoni Goni. He has showcased his abilities in various competitions and concerts in Italy and Quebec.
Additionally, Richard has performed with notable orchestras including the Venice Symphony, Bradenton Symphony, and Manhattan’s Philharmonic Orchestra. His dedication and skill have been recognized through scholarships and awards from renowned foundations such as the Gaston Dufresne Foundation and GuitarSarasota organization.
Richard brings with him extensive teaching experience and a genuine enthusiasm for guitar pedagogy. He has created a variety of student etudes, exercises, and ensemble pieces that have effectively supported his students' growth. Prior to his current role at The Manhattan Plucked String Academy, Richard taught at The Manatee School for the Arts and served as the director of Guitar Studies at the Suzuki Institute of Music.
In both 2018 and 2021, Richard and his students organized and participated in charity concerts for "Music Heals Us," an organization dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer patients in the Tampa Bay Area. These events collectively raised thousands of dollars for the cause.
Richard's students have achieved recognition and earned scholarships from prestigious institutions such as the Waffles Foundation of Music, the University of Florida, and the Oberlin Conservatory.
